Whittlesford

Low-Energy Remodel & Extension

  • Location: Whittlesford, Cambridgeshire

Project status: Planning approved (Click here for planning application documents and drawings)

  • Fen Studio Architects were appointed in late 2022 to design a sustainable, energy efficient family home on a central village plot, containing a bungalow, in the heart of Whittlesford’s conservation area. The design approach was to re-use as much of the existing bungalow structure as possible to minimise construction waste. The project was also designed to meet the EnerPhit Passive House standard and to include a suite of renewable energy systems, to provide a super energy efficient family home.

The architectural form and material palette pay contemporary homage to the adjacent heritage assets as well as the wider surrounding context which display a mixture of traditional housing forms and utilitarian structures.
